Too many things - to name a few 1. The kind consideration of the host. He took great care to understand what activities we wanted to do and provided advice on travel and timing 2. He also ascertained my friends exact dietary preference in advance and served her exceptional food as per her preference 3. Amazing cook. Best japanese traditional brekkie hands down 4. Kind and discreet staff. Exactly what you need in a Ryokan 5. Beautiful facility with the mod cons and old serenity combined It was like being a house guest and being indulged and pampered

My friends and I stayed here on very short notice after the shinkansen service was suspended and we had to divert through Nagano. We're very happy we did! The building itself is very tidy and homey! The bathing facilities were very comfortable and clean! The breakfast was beyond delicious! The staff is exceptionally welcoming and very kind (they even gave us a ride to the nearby bus station to drop off our luggage, then dropped us off at Matsumoto Castle)! I could go on and on about the staff and their hospitality. We know VERY little Japanese but their English was amazing and they did a great job explaining the amenities to us! The surrounding area is very quiet and beautiful! They are tucked inconspicuously in a small, suburban neighborhood and mountains surround the area. I cannot recommend this place enough and hope to stay here again in the future! If you are in the area, please do yourself a favor and stay here :)

Shoho was actually amazing! Dinner was superb! having like over 10 small courses, reserve enough time for it! it might take over 2 hours!. Breakfast was amazing too, big variety of options, dumplings, miso, salads, fruits and really tasty coffee! Room had fresh water to drink, onsen place was nice and quiet accessible in the morning and till 24.00. They also have shuttle bus from train station to the hotel. Besides that, hotel is located near the mountains, so the scenery is nice too.

The family who own and run the ryokan are delightful - welcoming and very helpful. I stayed here 15 years ago and they continue to run an exceptional traditional-style inn, if anything it has improved over the years. The updated onsen is a lovely feature. The breakfasts are delicious. Relatively easy walking distance to the “National Treasure” which is the castle of Matsumoto-Jo and to the superb modern art museum; easy bus ride to/from the rail station.

This was the most wonderful place we stayed in our month in Japan. Three nights of keiseki dinners, each better than the last. We had a huge comfy tatami room, the onsen were fab, the staff were incredibly kind, dropping us into town each day and collecting us in the afternoon, making it easy to enjoy marvellous Matsumoto. Totally recommend it to anyone who wants a homely feeling ryokan with top end food.

Onsen Yado Misuzuso is good value to stay in the mountains near Kamikochi. We stayed in a beautiful tatami room with yukatas provided to wear to the baths. The baths at this onsen smell really strongly of sulfur, be warned. There’s a lovely tiny restaurant Iodori located right next door so we could just walk over for dinner. The staff were really kind.

It‘s a really authentic Onsen-experience. We were the only non-Japanese at this place. Our room was a traditional room with tatami-mattresses. In the family room 3 slept on futons, 2 in beds. It‘s half-board. In the evening we had a 10 course menu in a private room. Although we had an English menu we were overwhelmed the first time with how to eat what and what needs to be cooked and what not

Had a great stay here and truly enjoyed the whole Ryokan experience. Staff was extremely hospitable. Thee traditional room and futons were comfy (though the duvet was a bit warm). The onsen was perfect and the dinner an breakfast were truly Japanese and all very good. Even though there are some language barriers, they did their utmost best to explain things, where needed with help from a translation app.
