Staying at this beautiful place made our visit in Beppu unforgettable. My husband and I enjoyed everything about it. The owners are so kind and attentive while making sure the guests have their privacy. The two Onsen of the house are wonderful. If you are not looking for luxury but a traditional Japanese guest house that puts effort in many details and offers an all around beautiful facility - this is the place to go!

The food was amazing. First time experience with Kaiseki menu and everything was exceptional down to the appetiser drinks. Loved that the menu showcased a lot of regional specialties to Kyushu, especially Oita prefecture. The location next to a stream was very peaceful. We enjoyed sitting and listening to the river. In room onset was great though the water from the hot spring is very very very hot (good thing they warn you in the introduction video) and loved the little touches such as females being able to pick their own Yukata pattern. Futons were very comfortable and plenty of tea and coffee available in room. A special thanks to our Ryokan host, Ryota, who tried his best to convey everything to us in English (and did so very well) and extended every hospitality possible to in an impeccable manner. We would 100% return.

Kannawaen is an entirely nonsmoking accommodations that features a garden, terrace and bar in Beppu. 328 feet from Hells of Beppu, the property is also 1640 feet away from Jigokumushikobo Kannawa.

We booked the premium room with tatami area. Our room was really spacious and clean. I really liked how there was a private garden in our room—really peaceful and lovely. When we entered the room, we were met with the living room, with a view of the garden where you can spend time on the veranda! There’s also a mini kitchen with cutleries! The dressing room, restroom, bathroom, and the best of them all the PRIVATE ONSEN were separated. (All of the rooms were really big!) There were two bedrooms—one in the tatami room where they laid out the futon for us. I really enjoyed the kaiseki course at their restaurant Matsuhide—each course was carefully crafted and use of local ingredients. And their breakfast was superb! They drove us to the Seikai building—the breakfast buffet had a large variety of Japanese dishes. It was really good too. Sadly, we only booked for a night, so we didn’t get to enjoy their various facilities as much as we’d like (there were the Gahama tower and onsen). Another thing I’d like to mention was the tea ceremony building! Read the history posted in front and was amazed by the historical significance of it!

Hana Beppu features a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 13 miles of Oita Bank Dome and a 5-minute walk of Beppu Station.

Within a 10-minute walk from Beppu Station. Free WiFi is available. Surrounded by greenery, air-conditioned rooms have a seating area with large windows and garden views.

This property and its staff is top notch. It’s genuinely a great value with its old charm while still being excellently maintained. The staff (Kenji) was very fluent in English and made check in the smoothest I’ve had across my travels in Japan. He had printed recommendations for food that were all well received from my group so I felt we can trust the staff put a lot of care to these details. The outdoor private bath was a treat to reserve and they have a nice easy system for you to book a time slot. The private onsen was also great amenity if you are feeling tired from seeing the other sights. The space was large and everyone felt comfy and cozy, especially with the kotatsu. The location is less than 10 minutes walk from the station for those commuting by train. Overall I would definitely rebook here if I were to come back to Beppu. Definitely one of the highlights of my time in Beppu.

Excellent property. The private onsen’s were fantastic. Pricey for a solo traveller but worth it for the experience. I would definitely come back. Would also recommend this place to others, especially groups.
