If you are looking for a cozy, authentic Japanese style, clean and comfortable mattrass, a dedicated sens of service from the owner Akira who will give you the places to go to eat the best sushi in town etc,.., you found the place at Yamazakiya Ryokan! The "Onsen" was gorgeous too and what a so romantic time going around those 300 years built streets of Yamanouchi, wearing the typical kimono and shoes after the hot bath in the Ryokan! It was definitely my favorite spot in a road trip around Tokyo so far! thank you so much for your kindness and professionalism Mr Akira, and your lovely family; your daughter for sure will become a virtuose at piano 🙂 . Definitely The place to be!

Calm and quiet place with a traditional vibe. The host is very kind and helpful, and has a great lot of respect for his guests. We had breakfast and dinner at the ryokan, and it was absolutly fantastic. One of the best meals we’ve had in Japan. They could also make the food gluten free, due to my allergy. The ryokan have three onsens only for guests (one for male, one for female, and one you can book for privat use). It is also close to the public ones. We liked that Shibu-Onsen is close to the Snow Monkey Park. Highly recomend booking this accommodation for a traditional and peaceful experience!

The hotel was amazing! A very sweet couple owning it. Very available and caring. We took the dinner option and they asked us before hand if we had some things we cannot eat which was super kind of them. The dinner was excellent ! A lot of variety, seasonal and very tasty food. Breakfast was also really really good. They also offer free shuttle service to and from the train station. Before arriving, i loved the fact that they were so responsive with our messages. The property even texted us about our arrival time since we got lost and only arrived past 9pm. The property itself is very well maintained. The room was spacious for my 4yo to roam around and play. They also had a lounge where they had hanko, coloured pens, crayons and even water colours. My 4yo loved going there to pass the time. We were also given complimentary yukata to wear around town. It was a first experience wearing one for my family. Definitely go for their breakfast options. They served traditional Japanese breakfast in a private room. And the menu was never a repeat.

I highly recommend this ryokan. Dinner and breakfast was amazing. Onsen experience with family was great. We arrived by car and Akira managed to provide a parking spot for us. The rooms were spacious and futons were comfortable for us. Heating system works great during our mid winter stay. Toiletries and yukatas were provided. While we were about to leave, he is assisting some guests to be dropped off at Snow Monkey Park which I think is great if you have no car.

Great location, in house restaurant for breakfast and dinner, traditional Japanese Ryokan. Despite being a tatami mat with futons, the bedding was extremely comfortable. Free bus pick up from train station as well as free bus drop off to Snow Monkey park. Staff were very helpful and provided lots of information about what to do and how to do it. Shared bathroom facilities were quite basic but OK. The bonus is the key to the public onsens, all 9 of them.

The staff were superbly friendly while retaining the unique traditional ryokan atmosphere. The onsens were beautiful and entirely peaceful. Both the guest rooms and the dining rooms were beautiful tatami rooms that when paired with the yukatas really made you feel the atmosphere at its most. The shuttle bus service to the snow monkey park and train station was also incredibly helpful!

Loved the traditional Ryokan. Cosy rooms with comfy futon style beds. We had a room at the front with an indoor balcony that overlooked the street. Had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, which was great. Staff were really friendly, helpful and spoke English. They supplied Yukata and geta to wear out to the onsen - the closest was only 50 meters up the road.

The owners were very lovely and did their best to accommodate us, picked us up from the station. It was a very nice experience to stay in traditional japanese ryokan, room was like from another era, had a tea set and futons, but there were also ac, humidifier and fridge. We used an onsen, had yukatas, it was all very comfortable

Lovely hotel. Room is very big with an amazing view of the city and mountains. The room has a traditional ryokan look with tatami floors and futon, the bathroom has a nice little bathub. The onsen is nice and clean. The staff, even though they couldn't speak english, made the effort to communicate with translator, and were very friendly and helpful, and in the end even gave me a lovely gift.

Beautiful old ryokan with super friendly and helpful team; quality service (the pickup from the train station, the drive to the monkey park); delicious food and superb cappuccino. Really enjoyed the traditional rooms (sleeping on futons) and the relaxed atmosphere in the ryokan. And not to forget: access to the 9 onsen baths as a guest of the ryokan. Try them all, walking towards them in traditional Japanese yukata and gets. Enjoyed every second of being here!
