Japanese-style rooms feature a tatami (woven mat) floor and shoji sliding paper screens. Some rooms offer tranquil views of the Seto Inland Sea. The omotenashi - the spirit of Japanese hospitality - was just incredible. Thank you to absolutely every member of the staff who made our stay so enjoyable. Person who picked us up in a shuttle, people at the front desk, people who served dinner and breakfast. Simply wonderful. The meals were generous and delicious. Hotel itself is nostalgic retro style. View is beautiful. Public baths are clean and relaxing.

The last 1 minute is uphill but not onerous at all. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. They also spoke English. Amazing indoor and outdoor onsen which we made full use of. Big comfortable room with kettle and TV (YouTube app available). Enjoyed the Japanese meal and breakfast (food plentiful, make sure you arrive extremely hungry). Their slogan is “Your home in Miyajima” and it’s so true. So comfortable and they provide everything including yukatas. You could literally just turn up with a change of underwear and everything else is pretty much available (toothbrush, hairbrush, toner & moisturiser in the onsen bathroom).

Set in Yasugi, 26 km from Mizuki Shigeru Road, Shokinkan offers rooms with air conditioning and free WiFi. The property is situated 26 km from Lake Shinji, 27 km from Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum and 24 km from Matsue Station. Shimane　Art　Museum is 26 km from the ryokan. Shokinkan is a truly magical place operated by incredible people. Nestled in a gorgeous, ancient temple complex, the grounds are extremely fun to hike/explore during the day, with plenty of opportunities to learn about the history of the place through thoughtful signage and the wonderful staff. The food was absolutely delicious - we were eating a feast of unique foods specially prepared for us every evening and morning, which made the experience epic. Okami-san and everyone else here gregariously welcomed us with cups of beautiful matcha, and even shuttled us to and from Yasugi station and to the Adachi Museum of Art. I will never forget this place!

All units in the ryokan are equipped with a kettle. There is a private bathroom with bidet in some units, along with slippers, a hair dryer and free toiletries. The units will provide guests with air conditioning, a safety deposit box and a flat-screen TV. Everything! Right from the reception, the amenities offered to the service of the staffs. Rooms were really clean and the in room dining is a must have. We booked the couple room with the en suite onsen and we can directly see the Torii gate from our room. The experience is exceptional. There is also access to the common area with many snacks and drinks provided. One of the most complete experience I have had in a hotel. The price might be on the steep end but definitely worth the experience!

Breakfast was outstanding—probably the best we've had in Japan so far. For context, this is our third visit to Japan, and during this trip alone, we’ve stayed in five different hotels. What truly stood out, though, was the exceptional service. When we needed to buy some medicine and found the local pharmacy already closed, the staff went above and beyond to help us. There’s a remarkable small-town warmth among the owners and staff—an atmosphere of mutual support that felt truly special.
