Boasting garden views, Ryutakuzenji 宿坊 offers accommodation with balcony, around 28 km from Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park. This property offers access to a terrace and free private parking. The ryokan has family rooms and facilities for disabled guests. We were travelling by train so it was very convenient for Tendou-san, the monk, to pick us up from the Takasaki train station for a reasonable additional charge. Tendou-san knew enough English to converse with us on the 30-minute drive to the hotel. The hotel is small and charming, next to the beautiful samurai temple and garden with a koi pond. The deluxe quadruple room was very large for just two people. The kotatsu table was a nice place to relax and be warm. The futons were very comfortable for sleeping. Like other reviews mention, some of the walls don't extend all the way up to the vaulted ceiling/roof, so there is potential for noise to pass in and out of rooms. However, we were the only ones there that night (others were dissuaded by snow forecast) so we had the whole place to ourselves. We had dinner and breakfast; both were delicious with large portions. We participated in the morning meditation. Tendou-san explained some history of the temple, initiated our meditation, and then left us to finish we felt ready to be done. It was a very nice experience that I would recommend to anyone!

Featuring an open-air bath, the 3-star ryokan has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. Guests can use the public bath, or enjoy mountain views. This Ryokan is phenomenal. - Breakfast and dinner, exceptional. Probably the greatest thing we like about the Ryokan. - The room, it was amazing, clean and tidy - We only used the private onsen (which is first come first serve basis, no booking required), temperature is just right with great view once you opened the window.

Offering river views, Minakamisansou is set in the Tanigawa Onsen district of Minakami, 36 km from Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort and 39 km from Naeba Ski Resort. Each accommodation at the 4-star ryokan has mountain views, and guests can enjoy access to a hot spring bath and an open-air bath. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. Rarely write reviews but the experience at Minakami Sansou highly exceeded our expectations. The hospitality was excellent, the rooms clean and beautiful, the hot spring was perfect, and on top of that the food was also well proportioned and delicious. Would stay here again next time we come to Minakami.

Set in Nakanojo in the Gunma region, Sekizenkan Kashotei Sanso offers accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. This 4-star ryokan offers a lift and luggage storage space. The ryokan features family rooms. AMAZING. If I could, I'd stay there at least once a week every month :") no wonder it was one of the references for the movie Spirited Away. The staff is really kind and understand English kinda well, even though the place is huge, they give you a map to find your room and how to find yourself in the complex building. We stayed in the Mori Room and it was definitely beyond our expectations. The room was so big, it felt like you were actually booking a spacious apartment to stay rather than only a room. Also, there were local snacks replaced daily and selected beverages at our disposal in the room, all for free. The view was incredible, especially when bathing in the private onsen in the room. They had sliding doors to cover the glass walls, so it wasn't too bright in the morning, unlike what many people complain when staying at a ryokan. And of course, the spotlight of our stay: They place you on a PRIVATE ROOM for the meals, with a relaxing ambient sound and a view of their garden while serving you a whole course of Japanese meal on the fancy side.

Located along Houshi River, Houshi Onsen Chojukan features a public hot spring bath, Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and Japanese cuisine. A wooden building stemming from 100 years ago, the property breathes a historical atmosphere. This place is just on the top of my ranking. A real Japanese experience with all the necessary detail to make the stay unforgettable. The different baths super clean and with history. The meals offered were delightful. And the environment just as needed, calm, serene and peaceful.
