Just 250 metres from Zenko-ji Temple, Matsuya Ryokan offers simple Japanese rooms with tatami-mat floors, a green-tea maker and an attached Western bathroom. The hotel features public baths. Wonderful place, excellent position (within the temple area). The owners are extremely kind and helpful. Very good breakfast. You have the impression to travel back in time.

Located in the heart of Nozawa Onsen, Tanuki offers guests a traditional accommodation with Japanese-style rooms that feature tatami (woven-straw) flooring. Everything about this place suited me perfectly! The location, the amazing room, the hospitality, the cafe-style included breakfast & the fantastic sushi restaurant in the same building. The sushi was so good I ate there both nights of my stay. Looking forward to returning in winter sometime.

It's slightly difficult to access, but worth it. The room was very comfortable and the view from the window very pleasing. Onsens were also very relaxing, and the dinner and breakfast was top notch. I would definitely recommend staying here.
