The Japanese-style guestrooms offer both air-conditioning and heating facilities, and an en suite bathroom. Each room is equipped with a fridge, tea/coffee making facilities and a TV with cable channels. This ryokan is about as fancy as you can get. It is not in town and required a taxi or shuttle to get there; fortunately they provide a free shuttle but it's on a schedule. Because it's on a hill above the city, it's peaceful and the view is fantastic. The service was friendly and helpful and they spoke English. Signs and information were in English. The room rate included meals for which this ryokan is well known. The meals were exquisite, traditional food artistically prepared. We didn't try the public bath, but it looked clean and was empty. In the waiting area for the public bath, there were massage chairs and foot massage machines that were wonderful after a day of walking around the city. The room had a soaking tub we enjoyed. We felt pampered.

There is a coffee shop on-site. The ryokan is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. The dinner was fabulous. We stayed three nights in a suite. We had Western dinner, 7+ courses, the first night, Japanese kaiseki the second night, and combination of the two the third night. The chef who cooked for us all three nights really did a wonderful job! Of course, the service was exceptional, and the suite exceeded our expectation.

Unzen Miyazaki Ryokan features a 1,650-square-meter Japanese garden, natural hot spring baths, free Wi-Fi, an on-site bar, cafe, souvenir shop and an exclusive lounge for guests staying in rooms on the 4th floor. Spacious table-seating in the dining room, all tables having a view of the garden (really a park-like setting) and a menu that deserves an international rating at the highest levels, and that applies to both dinner (the landscape outside the glass wall is softly illuminated) and breakfast that offers Western coffee selections and the best of Japanese tea. We booked two nights and we were delightfully surprised to find that both the dinner and breakfast menus were varied. The wait staff and chefs paced the meal to our habits, and as English-speaking guests we never were challenged in communications.

Situated 400 metres from Nagasaki Museum of History, 3.3 km from Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and 3.9 km from Peace Park, 和みの宿 おりがみ features accommodation located in Nagasaki. The air-conditioned accommodation is 700 metres from Nagasaki Station, and guests can benefit from private parking available on site and free WiFi. The ryokan has family rooms. They reserved parking for me and my name was marked in the space which was a lifesaver. They gave me clear instructions so I could check in late, but since I just had my residence card (not my passport) I needed help. The woman cleaning, I assume an owner, took her time to help me and I am very grateful. The room was very pretty, the futon was comfortable. Everything was spotless.

Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Saikaibashi in Sasebo has a seasonal outdoor swimming pool and a garden. Boasting free shuttle service, this property also provides guests with a restaurant. The accommodation offers a hot spring bath, a 24-hour front desk and free WiFi. The onsen was wonderful, beautiful, clean and well attended. Breakfast and dinner buffets were great with so many great choices and excellent presentation. The hotel staff was accommodating and explained things that were unfamiliar to us. The hotel itself has a beautiful location and is well maintained.

Azumaen provides a sauna and free private parking, and is within 47 km of Nagasaki Museum of History and 48 km of Nagasaki Station. With an open-air bath, the 4-star ryokan has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a private bathroom. Guests can use the hot spring bath and the public bath, or enjoy lake views. This was a beautiful place to stay. My room was huge with a lovely view of the lake. So quiet - all I could hear were the ducks and gentle rain. The staff were very welcoming. I would have stayed longer if I could.
