The Japanese-style rooms at Historical Ryokan Hostel K's House Ito Onsen are air-conditioned and come with traditional tatami-mat flooring. Most rooms enjoy beautiful views of the Matsukawa River. Every moment in the hostel felt unique exploring the authentic and historic ryokan building with extensive areas of tatami flooring, shoji walls and doors and of course the onsen.

The location was perfect for getting away from the busy streets of Tokyo, though I highly recommend renting a (small!) car to get here, as it is tucked away from public trsnsportation routes. Our room was clean, surprisingly well equipped and comfortable. Service was spot on, communication with our host was easy and quick. We never saw any of the staff though, which made the quality of service just that much more impressive. We were the only guests staying here at the time, so we had all facilities to ourselves (an introvert's dream). There were plenty of instructions in english for all the general how-tos, check-in and check-out was easy using the machine. Prepare to face some bugs around the area, we had a few interesting encounters with moths by the entrance. The room itself was equipped with bugspray and deterrents, though we didn't need them as our room was perfectly wildlife free. The bug screen in the private onsen kept the bugs at bay, allowing us to bathe and sleep while enjoying the sounds and smells of the surrounding nature!

Our special thanks goes to the very nice male staff who render his efficient services in table-setting for the many dishes of traditional Japanese cuisines, both for dinner and breakfast. He guided us the unique flavors of each type of food and the best way of eating with various sauces and condiments. He took the initiative to give us pamphlets about the sight-seeing spots nearby. We took his advice and did another hour of touring to learn more about Atami. It was a very hospitable and warming journey we had had with this hotel. Thank you for the very kind services of all the dedicated staff as well.

Hakone Checkpoint is 22 km from the ryokan, while Hakone Shrine is 25 km away. Full disclosure - this place is much fancier than the places we typically stay. It's expensive - but it was worth every yen. The facilities are luxurious. The food is an absolute marvel - creative, beautifully presented, and delicious. The private onsen on our balcony overlooking the ocean is the perfect way to relax. And the staff were all so incredibly kind to us and our children (especially Mayu). Our few days here were amongst the very best we had in Japan. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing, memorable splurge.

Isoaruki no Yuyado Ushiogumo -6 years or older- features sea views, free WiFi and free private parking, located in Kawazu, 37 km from Shuzen-ji Temple. Guests staying at this ryokan have access to a balcony. Guests have access to a hot spring bath, public bath and open-air bath. Amazing experience,very friendly staff and Japanese hospitality. Highly recommend !

The property is located 26 km from Hakone-Yumoto Station, 33 km from Shuzen-ji Temple and 48 km from Mount Daruma. Lake Ashi is 28 km away and Hakone Open-Air Museum is 34 km from the ryokan. One of the kindest and most accommodating hosts we’ve encountered in years. She went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Highly recommend this hotel for its warm hospitality and personal touch.

Set 10 km from Shuzen-ji Temple, Yumeguri no Yado Yoshiharu offers 5-star accommodation in Izunokuni and has a garden. Ideally located in the Izu Nagaoka Onsen district, this ryokan provides a terrace, as well as a hot tub. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. I enjoyed the variety of Onsen. The food was delicious. Staff were so nice too.
