This 3-star ryokan offers a housekeeping service and private check-in and check-out. Tsuta Hot Spring is 36 km away and Hirosaki Castle is 22 km from the ryokan. This is a traditional Japanese ryokan with public baths (gender separated). Dinner and breakfast are amazing and plentiful, with locally sourced organic produce (even coffee!). Our room (Japanese room with private toilet) was to the left of the entrance. It was very spacious. The heater worked very well as autumn night was a bit damp and cold. The beds are futons on wood bed frames on tatami, and they are super comfortable. As I have a whole-leg tattoo which is usually not permitted in the public baths, I notified Ranko in advance, and she reserved the private bath for us. The private bath was a very beautiful blue ceramic bath filled with warm (I don’t think it’s very hot) healing hot spring water from the area. Ranko’s warm personality really made the stay memorable. Be sure to ask her for recommendations of the areas. She is a well of knowledge of the area!

Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, a 24-hour front desk and a lift, along with free WiFi throughout the property. The ryokan has family rooms as well as facilities for disabled guests. Great all inclusive especially for beer enthusiasts. The room had a lot of space even with the futons laid out. We enjoyed the open air bath in the room and the private onsen. The meals were fantastic especially the dinners.

The ryokan provides a hot spring bath and a housekeeping service. This place! I cannot describe how amazing the room with private onsen is. Super spacious and comfortable, with a stunning view to the mountains. Breakfast and dinner were delicious (buffet style), enough vegetarian options. There's a free drink bar available for the afternoon/evening hours as well. I didn't use the public bath because they don't allow visible tattoo's though.

The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. Warmest accommodations I’ve ever received. I loved every aspect of the place - sleeping, living, dining, showering, onsen, accessibility to the slopes. This is a beautiful place! The owners were very nice and they were very forgiving of our mistakes and helped out with our request.

We wanted to visit the so-called Demon Slayer castle hotel. It’s out of the way so we rented a car rather than take transit. The drive itself was four hours from Tokyo.
From the parking lot staff, to front desk, housekeeping and everyone there… the staff were all amazingly kind and patient. Not everyone speaks English, but there are a few.
The rooms are spacious, clean, and very ryokan style (tatami) and the onsen was super clean. We had Kaiseki dinner and it was quite the experience. Food was delicious at dinner and the buffet lunch was traditionally Japanese. The stand out for us was the AIZU yogurt and AIZU maple syrup made from local chestnut trees.
If anyone at Ookawaso reads this, please accept our thank you. You were all wonderful and we hope to visit from Canada again someday. Thank you for your patience with my eight year old son and our horrible Japanese.

Every room at this ryokan is air conditioned and features a flat-screen TV. Some rooms feature a seating area where you can relax. The room was excellent in size and had a nice feeling to it. The onsen was close by. The staff was so kind and service minded. The whole experience with dinner and breakfast was exceptional, especially the staff member whom served us with excellent English. Just the whole experience was quite wonderful.

Tendo Onsen, Tendo
The ryokan offers soothing natural hot spring bath in natural stone tubs and an open-air hot springs bath. A shared lounge features a tatami (woven-straw) floor and view of a Japanese garden. The ryokan also offers free use of bicycles. Great rooms. We had both Japanese dinner and breakfast... what a treat!! The staff was wonderful as well. From the women's onsen you can see a cherry tree, and it happened to be in bloom! It was a truly extraordinary experience and worth the money.

Great, old school Japanese place to stay, right next to the gondola - its about a 20meter walk to the gondola entrance! And you can ski down the hill, right to the door. The room was nice and big with traditional tatami and futons. Great staff - the owner speaks really good english and is really helpful - he has great suggestions for everything from Onsen to restaurants etc. They even helped me ship my snowboard with Kuroneko back to Narita.
We stayed in the annex, in a room overlooking the Aga River. It was incredibly beautiful to see that view every day. The room was well-equipped, with comfortable futon, yukata, bathroom, fridge and onsen amenities. The large public bath and rotenburo in the main hotel were excellent.
The ryokan is really traditionnal and super cool to sleep and have lunch in. The classic tatami rooms and onsens are a must ! It's a delight after a quite hike in the park to chill around in the facilities. There's even an onsen on the roof that we did not try because we checked in too late so we didn't get the info haha Great surprise was also the adaptability to vegan travelers : they made us a fully vegan breakfast that was super good and filling so thanks for that !
Traditional style accommodation, gives you the chance to sleep in a futon on the tatami, wear a yukata, and utilise shared bathroom facility, or sento. It is worth the experience 😊 it's reasonably close to Hiraizumi station (about 10 minutes walk) and the host very kindly tried to accomodate for my vegan requirements for breakfast. Bathroom and toilets were clean.
Location is great. Onsen is spacious. Outdoor onsen is good. Restaurant serves reasonably priced food. Nice Japanese style room with futons and yukata.
The hotel was really great for the price. Everything is traditional Japanese; tatami everywhere and you take your shoes off right at the entrance rather than walking to your room with them. Onsen is not tattoo-friendly so I did not use, but I went to Yamagata one day to use the hot spring there instead. Breakfast was terrific, with many small plates to try lots of the food of Sendai. The staff was extremely helpful, and gave me suggestions for where to eat harakomeshi.
The woman who runs the inn is a sweetheart! I arrived in the traditional tatami-mat and futon room which was a great experience already and there were a yukata, chocolates and a thermos of hot water and green tea packets awaiting me (which were refilled everyday, as they cleaned the room!)
The location was excellent - very close to Aomori station and the Nebuta Museum! The staff was also very helpful when explaining things to me. As well, the room had a very Japanese style, and the yukata provided was very cute! Finally, the futon bed on the tatami was much softer than other futons that I have slept on during my trips in Japan, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Onsen (outdoors is best I think, you over look the waterfall and in our case falling snow). Ryokan style / tatami sleeping arrangements. Generous sized room.
