You get a sense of the daily life of the monks, and it is well located next to all the main sights in Koya. In the morning, you can participate in two rituals, and they are as depicted on the photos. We very much enjoyed the private onsen! Since the guesthouse is not big we did not have to wait to use it even once. The location is very nice, it is near the river and everything is within walking distance (except for groceries shop but that is expected in such a remote area).

The monks were friendly and extremely helpful as well as being discrete. The complex is set back from the road so it is really peaceful. Dinner is served around 17:30 and is absolutely delicious. You are in a private room screened off from the other guests. The dinner is a highlight of the stay in Koya-san. I would just advise that this experience is not really recommended for younger kids and teenagers with limited food options. Dressing up in a yukata may be fun but a 9pm curfew and peaceful atmosphere isn't conducive to rest and relaxation either for them or the other guests. If you intend to do the night tour of the cemetery just remember the curfew. In summer nightfall is around 7:30. Before breakfast we participated in the morning service with everything explained in English A unique experience on Koya-san and an interesting insight into Buddhist practice.
