When we arrived, they welcomed us with tea and a small sweet, which was lovely. Our room was large and looked out to the garden, which was gorgeous. We went in November and the autumnal colours in the garden and the town were absolutely beautiful. In the morning we had the privilege to attend the prayer and we received a blessing. After breakfast it started to snow, so we spent an hour watching the garden slowly turn white, it was magical. The communal toilets were clean and the communal bath was small but comfortable. Because the town is up in the mountains, and the building is all wood and paper walls it was very cold in the corridors, but we had heating in the room and nice thick covers for the night. A highlight of the stay were the dinner and the breakfast. All vegan food, very tasty even for us, who are not vegan or vegetarian. It is very conveniently located to visit Okunoin cemetery, we took part in a night tour, something that we highly recommend. All in all it was a magical stay and I would highly recommend it.

This temple really feels magical. The monks were very welcoming and professional. I liked how the temple is not commercial at all, and feels like a very local experience. The rooms are big and comfortable. As a solo female traveller I overall felt safe. The meals (dinner and breakfast) are typical Japanese vegetarian courses, served in very beautiful rooms. The service in the early morning was very interesting and insightful. I appreciated that there were both Japanese visitors and foreign visitors and the monks gave us an explanation in English.

Great experience, very interesting and cultural. Loved the food and the rooms. The monks are very nice and you can attend several rituals in the temple which is amazing.

Nằm tại vị trí thuận tiện ở Kawayu Onsen, Tanabe, Minshuku Sumiya tọa lạc cách Hosshinmon Oji Shrine 12 km, Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art 20 km và Kumanoshi Kiwakozan Museum 23 km. Very nice host and convenient location, which is just next to a bus stop. The room is big and clean. And it’s an interesting experience to stay in a tatami style room. In addition, there is wash machine and dryer in the hostel, so it is really helpful for the hiking travellers. The river view is very nice. Morning walk around the area is refreshing.

Hotel Kirinosato Takahara features outdoor and indoor hot spring baths, only a 2-minute walk from the World Heritage Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes. Our favourite stay in Japan. Beautiful view and decoration. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The food was delicious and healthy. The onsen is very nice and spacious.
