There were so many great aspects about the property including the spacious and modern lobby, bathhouses, and views of Mt. Fuji, but by far the most exceptional and memorable part of the stay was the STAFF! Every staff member we encountered was so kind and helpful — they made a significant effort to speak English and make the international travelers comfortable.

The units are equipped with heating facilities. We fell in love with Kakurinbo from the second we walked up the beautiful temple entrance and met all the kind staff. We stayed in the garden view room for the first night, and sitting on the balcony drinking green tea was like something out of a fairytale. The dinner served in small little colourful plates was some of the best food we have had in Japan. Our stay was so incredible: experiencing the Buddhist monk morning prayers at the temple on the hill, bathing in the baths, doing morning yoga, hiking and chatting to the staff, that we actually ended up extending for two more nights. We couldn't recommend this place more strongly. It was definitely one of the highlights of our time in Japan.

The hot springs were excellent, and because the ryokan is small, the experience is more akin to a private hot spring bath. The delicious breakfast makes an early morning hot spring bath even better. The decor is quite impressive. There are numerous detailed crafts and artworks, ranging from zodiac animal sculptures to the ryokan's own calligraphy pieces.
