Most peaceful and clean place we have stayed in Vietnam. Loved the location and village it is in. Located in a lovely quiet clean little village - close enough to town by bus, bike or taxi and all points of interest in the Island. New, modern, quality finishings, peaceful, pretty, comfortable firm beds with quality fresh linen, large rooms with amazing lighting - bright and dim options, great bathrooms, new bath and outdoor area very serene. The family that run this place are very kind and could not have been more helpful. I have a child with a disability and they were very accomodating. I am most grateful for their help in contacting the driver of the bus that took us from Cat Ba to Ninh Binh after we left and locating my sons communication device / iPad that was accidentally left on it - and arranging for it to be delivered to us in Ninh Binh the next day. Wish we had longer there - it really was lovely and a great spot to stop and recuperate from travels. I highly recommend it!

I don't provide reviews usually, but for The Swiss Hotel & Billy I'll make an exception ;) The listing had some typo, but Billy immediately stepped up and own it with a smile (as opposed to the usual excuses and deflections) He helped my wife with special dietary needs, including going to the markets with her and showing her local produce & culture, and top it up with cooking (with her) dinner - we had the pleasure of sharing with his lovely family. The room was clean, functional & comfortable and house-keeping replaced towels & provided free bottled water daily. Thank you Billy (& family/staff) for making us feel so welcomed :) Hope we meet again ...

I am so lucky to find Hoan's homestay in Cat Ba. The place is amazingly clean and well-furnished packed with awesome mountainous view where you can actually go hiking and fishing. I really appreciate Hoan's warm-hearted hospitality and passionate care.

Little Alley House er et overnatningssted med gratis cykler og en terrasse der ligger i Cát Bà, 9 minutters gang fra Tung Thu Beach, 2,5 km fra Ben Beo Harbour og 2,5 km fra Cannon Fort. Very nice people. They let us check in early and showed us the house from top to bottom. The apartment was a very large space, good for families. A washing machine on the third floor and two bathrooms made it very convenient. There is a darling tiny Daschund who lives next door who came and visited us every day. We had a scooter and a bicycle at our disposal, which made going to the old town very quick. The apartment is in a local area with lots of food options. There is a nice little bar called “Trang Draft Beer” that is run by a local woman right next door. Don’t be scared about how it looks. The proprietor speaks great English and offered up stories and local dishes for us tourists not familiar with real Vietnamese food. The beer is cold, food delicious, and the prices cheap. We ate here twice during our trip for under $8 USD for our family of three with three beers each. On the other hand, you can walk 1-2 km into the tourist part of town by the water and pay much higher prices.

Though the homestay has been through a lot (due to the typhoon in September), the host, Happy, is exceptional and we see why others have loved it so much here! She made us feel at home and did everything she could to make us feel comfortable and well-treated. We were also obsessed with her dogs, Min and Moon, and the other various wildlife around the property! The location is quiet and peaceful, the beds were super comfortable and clean, and toilet/showering facilities were grand. Happy also made us traditional family-style meals which were absolutely delicious, and basically made from scratch, with veggies picked straight from the garden! Happy also can organize tours -- our tour of the bay was AMAZING and a very good value, too. I think for backpackers, it's a perfect stay, and the value for money is really good. Thank you so much to Happy -- we loved spending these three days with you!
