Set in tranquil surroundings with large landscaped grounds and a picturesque garden terrace with mountain views, Tongariro Crossing Lodge offers uniquely spacious rooms with historic character. A garden is featured. Tongariro Crossing Lodge was a great place to stay for our family (parents, 2 adult daughters). Our main purpose was to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing the next day. However, after consulting with Louis (owner) and looking at the predicted cloud cover, we opted to delay the hike an extra day Louis kindly suggested alternative shorter hikes/activities near by, which were very enjoyable. Louis had also reserved spots for us on the shuttle (to/from hike) but upon our arrival and discussion, we decided to drive ourselves to the carpark which ended up being a good idea since the day we hiked was extremely cloudy, not clearing up until about 1pm. Driving ourselves allowed us to be flexible and enjoy the stunning views for another hour instead of rushing back to make the 5:30pm shuttle. In addition to the room (ours was newly renovated), you could also pay for a continental breakfast and sack lunch which Louis brought to our room the night before the hike. Very convenient and yummy!! Lodge was also within walking distance of restaurants (two that we ate at had great views of mountains, sunset) and small store. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay - perfect for us :). Louis was also very responsive prior to our trip, answering my many questions.

The holiday home includes a lounge area with chromecast TV and a fireplace. The kitchen comes with a dishwasher and dining area. There is also a balcony overlooking the surrounding mountains. Guests are provided with a washing machine and tumble dryer. Beautiful view out the window facing the park. Located on a quiet street. Parking was around the side, getting the key from the lockbox was no issue.

The spacious holiday home with a terrace and mountain views has 4 bedrooms, a living room, a flat-screen TV, an equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and an oven, and 2 bathrooms with a walk-in shower. Guests can take in the ambience of the surroundings from an outdoor dining area or keep themselves warm by the fireplace on colder days. The holiday home offers bed linen, towels and laundry service.

Featuring garden views, National Park Home is located in National Park, around 22 km from Whakapapa. The air-conditioned accommodation is 16 km from Mount Ruapehu, and guests can benefit from private parking available on site and free WiFi. The property is non-smoking and is set 16 km from Taranaki Falls. We love that the accommodation is centrally located in National Park village (not that the village is big). Graeme & Lynley also sent us clear instructions how to get into the house all by ourselves, which was really convenient as we travelled after work and reached there quite late in the evening. Everything in the accommodation really makes us feel like "home". There were even kitchen staples that we could use to cook our meals! Love it!

The highest hotel in New Zealand, Skotel Alpine is 10 minutes’ drive from the Whakapapa Ski Fields. Tongariro Alpine Crossing is 20 minutes’ drive away. Nice hotel with kind staff. The bed was super comfortable and the room had a nice view.

Plateau Lodge is located 15 minutes’ drive from UNESCO World Heritage listed Tongariro National Park, where guests can enjoy skiing, hiking, cycling and paddling activities. A daily, shuttle service is available hourly from 6:00 until 9:00 to the Tongariro Crossing & National park. Free parking is available. Just stayed for one night ahead of doing the Tongariro crossing but everything was great. Easy check in out of hours, spacious apartment which was well equipped and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again :)

The Ruapehu Park Hotel is at the foot of a large ski field and volcano at Mt Ruapehu. It is surrounded by two other famous mountains Ngauruhoe and Tongariro.

The natural setting around the Lodge is ideal for mountain biking, rafting, hiking, rock climbing, fishing or relaxing in thermal springs. We really loved the family rooms - they were warm despite the cold temperatures. The hot water systems (i.e. the showers) were excellent. Finding the hotel and accessing the car park was also very easy. The restaurant (the spiral) also served very high quality food. The cost of the rooms was outstanding value for money.

Ski storage space is available on site and skiing can be enjoyed within close proximity of the lodge. It was modern and extremely clean
