Location was very good for skiing. Ski room locker directly opened onto slopes and the top of gondola was steps away when returning on the last lift. Have stayed here before and the private onsen room includes a private dining room with full multi course Japanese meals. These Japanese meals are very traditional and not for the western palate but are a great experience for the adventurous. The normal rooms and shared dining work but the private dining is the real treat and why I booked. The shared onsen is also very good but maybe not great if it was busy - we were the only ones there and the sauna and outdoor pool were a bonus. If the private onsen room doesn't make too big a dent in your wallet and you want to experience traditional Japanese dining then go for it.

Location was great and staff was really helpful. I got the meal package and it was great. Delicious breakfasts and dinners and really affordable if you prebook with your room booking. The communal meals are also a great spot to meet other travelers if you’re travelling alone.

We had a wonderful stay at Heta in the family room, Kazu our host was very helpful and accommodating throughout our stay, Kazu also manages a cozy bar below the accommodation serving excellent cocktails and provided us with good company at the end of a long day on the slopes! Bonus features were the use of onsite sauna steam room and onsen every night and onsite laundry facilities We hope to return again next season!

Beautiful onsen with many different types of baths. Really liked the private baths too. Spaceous and nice rooms.

The place was well kept and clean. The owner/staff was extremely helpful from before arrival to check out. Quite a fair bit of food nearby so you’ll not go hungry.

We had a wonderful time staying in this very cute and cozy Ryokan. The breakfast was amazing and the Onsen were wonderful. Hishiya Torazo was very friendly and helpful providing us tipps for things to do in the area and pointing us toward nice dinner options. A nice surprise for people with tattoos: the onsens in town are also fine to use and you are being provided with a key to access them all. :)

Extremely good value! We had a great stay at Yamatoya during a ski holiday. The rooms are much larger than your average in Japan and the beds were super soft and comfy so we got a good night’s sleep every night. There was a delicious breakfast included in the price which was plenty big enough to fill us up before hitting the slopes. There is a natural onsen on the ground floor which was free and great for aching muscles at the end of the day. The host Tomii was incredibly kind and generous. He went the extra mile to help us enjoy our visit. It is possible for guests to book ski pass tickets at reception for a discount on the main station price which is very helpful. We hope to come back to Nazawa Onsen and stay again at Yamatoya one day!
