This was an "experience" for me and an amazing one. The moment I stepped in, I felt that this place was a part of Japanese culture. The staff was very kind, thoughtful and respectful: respectful to guests and to the Ryokan culture as a whole. The smell of tatami in the rooms, the futon I slept on and the Yukata we were provided with were all spot-on and ensured a smooth transition from traditional Viseu streets to Japan in our minds. The place was shining clean (I could even use the Japanese word ~pika pika~ to describe how clean!) and the breakfast (the usual one that's included in the price) had a very nice freshly-made omelette and Castella cake (yummy and fluffy!). We didn't order lunch or dinner so I won't be able to comment on that even though I have no doubts it would be amazing as well! The food area and the terrace at night time was very peaceful, dimly-lit and cosy which made the perfect atmosphere to experiment some sake (I mean Nihon Shuu) of which they had many different types! I need to say that I had high expectations of this place and I am very pleased to write that it had satisfied my mind, my body and my soul even over a two-day stay. Thank you, Viseu Ryokan family!

Wonderful location, not far from the city center, big Spa space, warm indoor pools (one is good for swimming, another for warm spa relaxation), clean and comfortable rooms, done with good taste, amazing city view, and super tasty restaurant meal, very hostile staff and friendly atmosphere.

Hotel Grão Vasco is situated in a large garden with an oval-shaped swimming pool and well-tended hedges. The restaurant has large windows and overlooks the green lawn.
