Each cottage has a private sun terrace and the resort offers massages in a private beach bure. Each cottage is fitted with a private bathroom and some feature outdoor showers. The food was excellent - we had all our meals there and they were all delicious! The staff are all amazing people and the views were to die for! The rooms were comfortable and our view from the windows and patio was just awesome.

The property has an outdoor swimming pool with sun lounges. There is an on-site spa where guests can indulge in massages, facials and body scrubs. You can also enjoy the weekly Fijian Cultural Night, free use of kayaks, reef walks and free rental of snorkelling equipment. The quality of this place is exceptional. Perfectly integrated with its natural surroundings, it offers a haven of true relaxation. I have traveled widely, yet this is one of the rare places I truly want to return to. Taveuni is a magical island — unspoiled, lush, and refreshingly free of mass tourism. Staying at this hotel felt like being immersed in an untouched piece of Fijian paradise. Our villa had a breathtaking view of the sea and felt wonderfully secluded, even with ten or so other villas nearby. Spending time in our private garden, with the ocean at our feet, was unforgettable. The villa was extremely spacious, with a supremely comfortable bed that made every night’s sleep a joy. The restaurant is another highlight, offering spectacular views and excellent food with a different menu each day. For variety, a charming local restaurant just a 10-minute walk away provides authentic island dining. What truly sets this place apart is the staff. Unlike the impersonal feel of large resorts, here everything is personal, warm, and genuine. The team was never too busy to answer questions or anticipate needs, often acting proactively because they genuinely cared. A special mention to Storm, in the hotel office, whose support was remarkable. She not only helped me reschedule my trip after an injury, but was constantly available with advice, before and during my stay. Likewise, Raymond tirelessly personalized tours and even used family connections to assist with the final part of my trip in Nadi. Both embodied true hospitality: caring, patient, and committed to making guests feel at home. Their involvement made my stay feel more than a holiday — it felt like being welcomed into a family. Leaving was genuinely difficult, and I will always remember their warmth until I return.

Spend your days surfing, diving, snorkelling or simply relaxing in a hammock on the beach at this solar-powered eco resort. It features an on-site restaurant and traditional bungalow accommodation.

Maqai Beach Eco Resort is located in front of several surfing breaks on Qamea Island, with tropical mountains, rainforest and white sand beaches. Transfers from Taveuni Airport can be arranged. What did I like? Where do I start? I liked...no, I loved every minute of my stay at Maqai. It is as close to paradise as I'll allow my pragmatic mind to entertain. From the relative remoteness to the natural beauty, the super-relaxed atmosphere to the genuine warmth of the staff, this is a very special place. More of a traveller vibe than that of the well-worn tourist path of the islands closer to Nadi. Slightly rustic? Sure, but only in the best possible way. Cathy (manager) ran as tight a ship as possible on a tropical island in the Pacific. She was welcoming and prompt with her email replies to my questions regarding all the various water sports and cultural experiences on the island. In no particular order, the following staff members quickly began to feel like old friends...Navo, Etta, Sala, Emosi, Soni, Tui, Junior, Jale, Johnny, Mama's Soke & Luce, Netta and Suki (four legged and furry). They all exude such an authentically friendly yet service oriented approach to their individual roles. I can't speak highly enough of how they looked after me. It is up to you how much or how little activity you schedule into your day on Qamea. Highlights included surf trips to the outer reefs, snorkelling and lunch on the Island Tour, the Sunday morning village visits and church service, and the food. Crikey, the food. I had to ask for slightly less portions by dinner time, or I would have no room left for evening kava with the locals! If you're reading this review and considering/comparing it with other options in Fiji, fair enough, but I honestly feel it is a rare and rich experience worth every cent and the added travel time to get there. Bula! Tama.
