Featuring quiet street views, Oriole Homestay in Thekkady offers accommodation, massage services and a shared lounge. This homestay features free private parking and a shared kitchen. Guests can use the spa facilities and the wellness packages, or enjoy mountain views. Oriole homestay exceeded our expectations in terms of comfort, hospitality, and overall experience. The room was spacious (the biggest we got during our travels in India), and it had a nice big balcony (more like a terrace). The bathroom is also big, providing hot and warm water; a shower is a bit separated from the toilet so not everything is wet after showering. The hosts, Mr. Girish and Mrs. Sunila, were a real gem - they were warm and friendly and they helped us with our tickets (go to the martial show, it is really fun to see), and all other bookings (nearby trips, intercity transports, etc.). All their recommendations for nearby attractions and restaurants were excellent. We had breakfast at a homestay on our last morning, and Mrs. Sunila cooked great food, and we had a very refreshing conversation with Mr. Girish who is an expert in Thekkady animals and forests, and knows a lot about world animals in general. Mr. Girish, I will read the book soon! Finally, the location of the place was great as it was situated in a peaceful area but also close to a few good restaurants and a walk distance from the attractions.

From check-in to check-out, the service and hospitality were beyond expectations. This is easily one of the finest resorts I’ve stayed at in Thekkady. This property is an absolute gem and one of my favorite stays in India. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded expectations. Even the most basic rooms are incredibly spacious—more like a one-bedroom apartment—blending traditional charm with modern minimalism. The setting is breathtaking, nestled within a plantation where you wake up to birdsong and crickets. We even spotted deer during our stay! The staff are genuinely warm and attentive, making the experience feel personal and welcoming. Daily Ayurvedic massages added to the relaxation, and a highlight was the cooking class led by Chef Sibil, Arun, and their team, where we learned to make a fantastic Kerala fish curry. Akhila also gave us an insightful tour of the plantation, which made us appreciate the place even more. One of the unique touches here is the drinking water—it is harvested on-site and tastes incredibly fresh! The breakfast spread was exceptional, with perfectly prepared dishes, fragrant fruits, and fresh juices. We also tried the plantation’s coffee, a lovely light to medium-bodied brew. If you visit, do not miss their honey—it is outstanding! Food here is a true highlight. Some of my top recommendations are the All-Spice Chicken, Kerala Beef Coconut Fry, Banana Fritters, and Kerala Parotta. Everything was cooked to perfection. This place offers a rare balance—it is intimate and peaceful, yet has all the comforts of a high-end retreat. My favorite spot was the balcony, overlooking the lush greenery of the plantation—a perfect place to unwind. Smaller properties sometimes come with limitations, while larger ones can feel impersonal. This one is just right—private and exclusive, yet offering everything you could need for a perfect stay. Highly recommend!

At the homestay, every unit has a balcony. The homestay features some units that have quiet street views, and every unit is fitted with a private bathroom with a bath. The location of the place is super convenient to go to the Tiger Reserve or to town. It is also ideally located to take a cooking class and it is within 5min walk of the bus station. The recommendations of the home owner were fantastic and useful. He even helped us to book walks in the reserve before arriving in Periyar. We really appreciated our stay.

Breakfast is simple but very good.
