I explored the area, and it was very beautiful. The hotsprings were super relaxed. Breakfast/dinner was also delicious. And of course, very friendly staff. I asked if tattoos were okay for the hotspings, and they said it was okay. Although there was a sign saying no tattoos (as well on website), they seemed to be really nice about it & allowed it. Bonus points for that.

It's new and shiny, rooms are spacious and modern plus a nice onsen. Certainly a comfortable hotel which also provides a generous breakfast and dinner.

Featuring 2-Michelin stars, a public hot-spring bath and beautiful views of Japan’s Northern Alps, Hotel Hotaka is situated in the in the vast wilderness of Okuhida, just a 2-minute walk from Shinhotaka Onsen Station. Rooms include a full en-suite bathroom.

An art gallery and souvenir shop provide opportunities for discovery. The lobby has free Wi-Fi. Guests can relax in the reservable private hot-spring baths or unwind with a massage. The onsen was amazing. The onsen on the men’s side consisted of one indoor pool, two outdoor pools, and two individual tubs outside. It was amazing. The hotel itself was a bit dated and the staff, while wonderful, were not as attentive as other Ryokans we have stayed. One other reviewer described it like staying at grandma’s house. This was a fair comparison. Finally, this hotel is very remote, the last place on the bus route. Given the price we could have stayed closer to town, but we loved the Onsen and our overall experience was excellent.

I liked a lot the location, very close to the station so easy to move to cities around like Gifu.
