The room itself was spacious enough for two, with good bed and big TV. Staff was attentive, you could buy snacks in the lobby since there are no combinis nearby. We only stayed one night but it seemed like a really nice hotel, even though it’s in the middle of nowhere - but since we were coming by car, it was not a problem.

There are microwaves and hot water dispensers, and you can set up your take-out meals in this area, with plenty of space for friends and family. This hotel has a distinct Japanese aesthetic even though it is an American chain. The staff are helpful, and were great at giving us advice for where to eat in the park and how to get around. The park, the little petting zoo, the onsen bath, and the many little spots for food and drink truly make this a perfect get-away for a couple, friends, and family. Try to stay at least two nights if possible to make full use of the discounts for hotel guests in the park.

The property also provides free pick-up service from JR Takayama Station. Free shuttle bus service is available when check-in, check-out, after dinner. We had the most wonderful stay. Tai and his family are so lovely and welcoming, the house and garden is beautiful, and the breakfast is delicious. We also loved meeting Tara the cat!

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. Exceptional - the location is stunning, the owners so warm and friendly, the dinner was truly an experience - the paired wines really elevated the experience. The decor has been carefully thought out. The onsen was really enjoyable. Probably one of the best meals/experiences I have had. The owners and staff deserve real credit for how much attention to detail, creativity, love and perfection they have put into this place. 10/10 experience, we hope to come back!!!

My husband and I had an incredible experience at Izumi-So. Facilities were clean, owners were welcoming and incredibly friendly and hospitable. Highly recommend !
