The staff welcomed us wholeheartedly and helped us with nearly everything, including our luggage, recommendations and making a reservation at a local yakiniku restaurant. The staff members spoke good English so that also helped us a lot! The private bathroom was relaxing and the room and futons were really good. The simple breakfast was smart and sufficient to us, too. The location is just a 10 minute (very slightly uphill but straight) walk from the railway station, and the Lawson conbini (24/7) is very close by if you need anything else. Definitely would recommend this place!

They taught us how to dress in the traditional Japanese clothes, helped us with information on the Nakasendo walk, and provided beautiful meals. We were picked up from Nakatsugawa Station and taken to the accommodation, and the following morning they also drove us to Magome to start our Nakasendo walk. They even transported our bag to Nagiso for us. The service from the staff was exceptional. The chef Masaya Yoshida made us beautiful meals for dinner and breakfast. The rooms are traditional Japanese houses with a lot of space, separate rooms for sleeping and dining and private bathrooms in the houses as well as the public onsen. The houses are in beautiful gardens and the rooms have lovely views of the grounds. It is very peaceful and quiet, outside of the main township. This was a fantastic place to stay, and a great Japanese cultural experience.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. The food and experience is phenomenal for the price paid. Please take the dinner and a few glasses of wine - the host is exceptional with pairings and the food is unimaginably good. The bath even though shared is also very nice with a full onsen vibe. Everything in the building has very obviously been meticulously thought through.

A 3-minute drive from JR Gero Train Station, Izumi-so offers Japanese-style rooms, an indoor and an open-air natural hot spring bath and Japanese cuisine. The hotel houses a souvenir shop and drinks vending machines. Free parking is available, and a free pick-up can be requested from the station. My husband and I had an incredible experience at Izumi-So. Facilities were clean, owners were welcoming and incredibly friendly and hospitable. Highly recommend !
