Just to the left of entering sanmon gate, there is a stone garden created by the famous Mirei Shigemori and designated a natural monument by the Japanese government. Everything is magical. The food, the place, the bath, the staff, the morning ritual. One of the best experiences involving accommodations I've ever had.
Hongu
Offering tranquil outdoor hot-spring baths with nature views, a Nakai-san personal attendant, karaoke, massages and sumptuous Kaiseki dinners, Yunominesou is a 10-minute walk from Tsuboyu hot spring, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel is a great base to explore Kumano Kodo. Location is excellent - at the heart of Kumano Kodo, near Hongu, right on the main bus line, great for hikes. The hotel has very nice Japanese style family rooms, with great views of nature. Dinner (kaiseki - tasting style) was fantastic and very good value for money. Breakfast also rich (you can choose Japanese and western). Bonus - the hotel also has own "onsen" - Japanese hot bath, including two private family rooms and two big open air bath. Using the onsen is included in the room price. Moreover, staff is very helpful, speak solid English and will take you to with a shuttle to a better bust stop for the ride to the Kumano Kodo trek.

A hot spring bath is available for guests. The ryokan also features free WiFi, free private parking and facilities for disabled guests. I was very happy when I got to the hotel the atmosphere just felt really friendly and warm. I loved the bridge over the river to the onsen. The onsen was lovely, three outside pools and an indoor pool plus a private onsen for families or couples. The food was fantastic, eat slowly I ate too quickly and felt full too soon. There was a very friendly front of house staff member called Suchittra or maybe Sasayuri. I had a western twin room on the ground floor. The hotel was comfortably busy without being hectic. They have a shuttle bus and that was very handy from Hongu. When I left they gave me very good instructions how and when to catch the public bus to my next location.

Very well equiped rooms. Friendly host. Central location, walking distance to main places to visit.
Check-In was easy enough through a machine, and we had a room on the 11th floor which we could easily reach with the elevator. The room was nice, had an a/c, mini fridge and a private bathroom with all necessities. We booked three nights with breakfast and it was alright, the cafeteria was nice to sit in. Check-Out was even easier, you just had to slip your room card(s) into a machine. The location was also perfect for us, it's very close to the main train and bus station, only a 5 min walk. Would definitely recommend!
Convenient and good location. Friendly and helpful staff. Value for money.
Good price quality! You have everything you need to spend one night in Tanabe before starting Kumano Kodo.
The location is superb. It located in the city center and access to the station, restaurants, etc. is super easy. The breakfast buffet is relatively simple but at least its value is more than the cost of 500 yen.
The owner was extremely knowledgeable of hiking, buses and timetables was allowed to leave main luggage stored there till return for free. The location to JR Station and buses, restaurants make the guest house perfect gor the budget traveller or person soughting knowledgeable of hikes.
Great location right in the heart of koyasan town. Very convenient to walk to any attractions nearby. Room facilities are up to bar with some 2-3 star hotel I have been to. Tommy is a super friendly host. He recommends a lot of great local experiences from places to have dinner to different trekking trails and temple rituals you can attend for free. Tommy and his wife run a cafe next door and it’s open from 8am which is a rare thing in koyasan (most shops open at 11am). You get a big discount if you stay at Tommy guest house too ❤️
Price - a really good price for the room I had for the night Location - it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere but exactly what I needed, so it’s perfect location for me The view - I had the sea view room, and the view was great
Very good location in Koya. It's near the city centre but a bit removed from the Okunoin cemetery.
