Pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I travel all over the world for work (and pleasure) but I live in Britain and know what it can be like selecting a hotel in an area you know but still don’t quite know. This place is fab! The building itself is one of quaint historic preservation. The entry is comfortable, much nicer than bright lights and a huge desk. Staff were very kind and although I didn’t need help because I simply wanted to rest, everyone was calm and happy to greet me. My room, hands down was an absolutely perfect set up. Sofa, tv, small kitchen, a little table and ‘good’ coffee and tea in room. Then crossing into the bedroom - a large and very comfortable bed, deep tub in the room, a tv plus a closet and a loo with a great shower. The thing is, there has been a lot of thought in the placement of furniture and layout, plus lighting—I prefer muted lighting and watching tv last night was like being at home. I cast from my accounts to both TVs. Furnishing nice. Snacks were great and since I actually was so comfortable I basically just ate most of the snacks instead of going out, olives, hummus crisps, a couple other random things. Although not overly healthy to just eat snacks, at least some alternative options were there. A tiny bottle of milk was in the fridge. It’s the little touches that make life easier. Only suggestion, perhaps a lightweight sofa throw…but that’s a first world problem. Big coffee cups in the room. And the location is absolutely great—couldn’t be better. Right there and easy to get anywhere if I needed to. I’ll definitely come back here. I didn’t try the breakfast because I needed to get to my meetings and I was so comfortable I stayed in my room until the very last minute. Picturesque and pleasant. This hotel is permanently on my list for Manchester stops.

Manchester is an amazing city - for business or pleasure.

Manchester is an amazing city - for business or pleasure. There is a vast selection of restaurants and the shops are fabulous - although not many independent boutiques, all high-street chains. Not a great city for cars, recommend travelling in by train or taxi. Most of the city centre is pedestrianised, which is much safer when walking around. If you're looking for finer dining, head to Spinningfields, or Grand Pacific (stunning restaurant!). If you're on a hen/stag doo, head for Deansgate or Canal Street. If you're partial to Chinese food, head to China Town - there are some amazing restaurants there! If you're looking for an indy/student vibe, head to the Northern Quarter. Manchester has something for everyone!

I came to see Lady Gaga perform at Co-Op Live on Wednesday...

I came to see Lady Gaga perform at Co-Op Live on Wednesday 8th October 2025, a new arena in the city. If there's an event on there, the arena is very well connected to the rest of the city via the trams. Make sure to check out The Northern Quarter, it's an area full of independent bars, restaurants and shops. Vintage shops? They've got them. Afflecks is another personal highlight. Like your vinyl? Lots of vinyl record shops there. Street art - it's there. I'd love to try a workshop at The Manchester Craft and Design Centre next time. Make sure you eat and drink at the many independent restaurants dotted around the city, you've got all of the national chains back in your hometown. I found the tram system to be a true joy - you simply tap in and out as you go and the compact city centre is very walkable. I felt very safe walking around after dark, but being mindful of my surroundings of course. You will see the worker bee around a lot, it's a symbol of the city's industrial past and a huge part of its identity. If you are a football fan, then you do need to go and do a stadium tour of the two big teams of the city. If you're a member of the LGBTQIA+ community like myself, it's a city that is very welcoming and you can be yourself there. Mancunians are very very friendly, fiercely proud of their city and you can see why.

    Not a fan of Manchester.

Not a fan of Manchester. It seems deprived of personality - people in general rude - but that's maybe most city folk. Not a clean place to visit - alot of graffiti. The Co Op stadium is in the middle of nowhere so had to uber there and back from the main areas.

Busy city, but we always find it easy to get where we want to be, either by walking, bus or tram. Plenty to see and do from shopping to sightseeing. People are usually friendly, especially in the places we visit, always seem happy to help with questions etc. This visit was for a gig at the Bridgewater Hall, a new venue for us, what a wonderful place it is for music. I finally came across the Emmeline Pankhurst statue too in St Peter’s Square. We also spent some time in Aflecks, one of my favourite places to visit, which is a cornucopia of independent, eclectic shops, be prepared to spend some time wandering around, as there are many small businesses spread over the three floors.

I recently stayed at the Clayton Hotel in Manchester City Centre and overall had a positive experience. The location is excellent: within easy walking distance to most of the city's major attractions, shops, and restaurants. It made getting around Manchester incredibly convenient. The room was spacious and modern, with very comfortable beds that made it easy to relax after a long day.
