We had a lovely stay at the Apple Cider Lodge watching the tides moving in and out, eating farmfresh eggs for breakfast, sipping cider as a sundowner and sleeping in heavenly beds. The Lodge provided everything we needed and even more (our 2.5 yo was so happy about the toys). The surrounding offers many great spots to explore as beaches, regional parks, restaurants, shops, weekend markets and many more.

The location. 1 hour drive north of Auckland airport, we wanted somewhere quiet to get over the flight from the uk. Perfect. The kitchen dinner and terrace are lovely. The air con is good and necessary. The owner, Danielle, is very friendly and the swimming pool is lovely.

Some unique features include bananas growing in the garden, two species of native parrots flying overhead and the sounds of Kookaburras calling to each other. The host is excellent and super friendly. The stay was wonderful and quiet event tough we only had one night I can only recommend staying there. You have everything you need with coffee, tea and milk and we especially loved the tiny oven.

Beautiful property and what a stunning location, absolute gem and will return very soon as me and my partner loved everything about it. Clean, had everything you need and the views…. Wow ! Best of all were the hosts Vicki and Clint…. Salt of the earth people who went way above and beyond with us, they made our stay that little bit better than anywhere I’ve stayed. Friendly, welcoming and we even shared a drink together whilst chatting all things life. I’d urge anyone wanting a get away in Matakana and surrounding areas to book this place. Also they have the best little bunch of pugs and a stunning boxer that were so friendly and lovable
