Our 2nd stay here and we love it. Food is excellent. We need the accessibility of a garden room, but (in room 28) the hot weather meant the room was very stuffy, and cramped, and as there seemed no ventilation in the bathroom, leaving the door open added to the overall humidity. We were both exhausted, but very content to spend hours in the hotel's lovely private garden overlooking the canal. Everyone most friendly and attentive.

Kaes and Brian were so lovely. They took care of us very well on our stay.
Hotel Spaander is located in a prime position in Volendam on the banks of the Lake Markermeer. This historical hotel dating back to 1881 has a truly authentic Dutch feel to it.

Lovely place in a lovely area. The food was excellent and the staff was lovely. They went above and beyond to fix a dinner for us, when the restaurant was closed.

Edam is a lovely village and great base for visiting Amsterdam, especially for families. There’s not a lot to do in Edam itself, but it’s really pretty and all the people we met were very friendly. There’s a lovely sweet shop too, and the owner gave our kids a free treat each.

Edam is a great little village.
Edam is a great little village. The cheese market is a must see. Get there a little early to get a front row seat, maybe 15 minutes before it opens. The canals are great and I recommend hiring a boat to do a one hour self guided tour. There are only a few restaurants in the town. We went to Volendam for food which was great. It is a bit hard to get to and even harder to get back. No Ubers available in the evening and all the taxi companies were not even picking up the phone. We eventually were able to find a bus to get back.

With bus 314 from Amsterdam central station you’ll get to Edam in 30 minutes which you won’t even notice because you will be so busy looking at the amazing landscape of green grass fields canals farms typical Dutch houses. Edam and Volendam are very small and quiet places but there are lots of nice restaurants/pubs with live music, nice atmosphere, nice food. The shops close at 5 pm, around 6 everyone is having dinner. You get straight away the feeling of the countryside town where everything is more relaxed and people take it easy. If you are into nature you will be taken away by the bike/foot path to Volendam (3/4 km): it’s stunning! In Volendam you will walk the shopping street with amazing souvenirs on sale and at the end of the pedestrian path (marina park) you’ll find the bus stop for the return.
Get a nord Holland map and check out the rest of the region.
It’s unbelievable that these quality towns are just 15 km away from Amsterdam but the scenery changes radically. You get the best of both worlds in less than an hour travel!

Really good musical instrument shop selling hundreds of stringed instruments and accordeons. Excellent food in two very good restaurants - Strandbad and Juliana at reasonable prices. Expected cheese choice. Streets are very narrow and one way system is necessarily intricate because of canals. Cobbles make buggy-pushing hard work. House wines are good, but specialist wines vary expensive.

Edam is a beautiful small village/small city with a very nice view everywhere you go.
We enjoy our walk in the calm streets and beautiful houses around the hotel, not to mention the local cheese shop and other tourists attractions.
A very nice place to visit.
The location is great, the Bus to Amsterdam (25 minute ride)
is only a minutes walk away. Edam is a cute town with a few nice restaurants and bars along the picturesque canals. The room was a good size and comfortable, with a seating area and desk. Breakfast was nice and the staff very friendly. Free parking is a 3 minute walk away, and E-Chargers are close to the hotel. Definitely would recommend, especially with the crazy hotel and parking prices in Amsterdam.
Location was excellent . A good walk (3 km) to the busier Volendam and the walk along the water. Local shops nearby were worth visiting for cheese, chocolate, souvenirs, etc.. Ample outdoor seating adjacent to the canal on the hotel property. Rooms were elaborately decorated in the romantic style. Service was generally good - one waitress was outstanding. Restaurant was good. Beware if you order the appetizer platter - it's huge, plenty for two or three.
The breakfast was always ready, and the staff made sure to prepare a table big enough for our whole family (8 people). They were very helpful and served as much fresh made espresso as we wanted. Also, we had to check in very late (past midnight) due to delayed flights, and they stayed up for us. Edam is a quiet, cute, and perfect place to stay and take day trips to Amsterdam and places like the Windmills.
Amazing place !! The room was SO nice modern, smell fresh and clean. everywhere you look you see that they thought about it on how to make it easy and comfortable for you. and with free WiFi. Location was great. this was the best hotel out of 4 in our trip. thank you for all prev feedback. AND forgot to say that there is FREE parking around the block...... LOVED IT. THANK YOU
The property is beautiful and clean, with a beautiful view and have all necessities you could need during a stay there. The bed is also really comfy, we had a great night sleep there. The hosts are super welcoming and nice! We would definitely come back to explore Edam and surroundings a bit more. :)
Beautiful, spacious and well designed old house in the very heart of old Edam. The place has all of the necessary facilities and the beds are comfortable too. Tge hosts were very friendly. The nearby located cheese store sells very nice authenric cheese. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
Beautiful location, nice view from the Hotel room over the canal and excellent big breakfast, friendly staff and overall a lovely place to stay, not too far from Amsterdam with en excellent bus service to get to and from Amsterdam to Edam.
Large, beautiful, comfortable rooms. Has everything you could need including a washing machine. In lovely and quiet Edam, but very close to Amsterdam by car or bus. Diana is lovely and answers questions quickly. Felt very welcome.
Lovely B&B in Edam, walking distance from downtown. Also 35 min walk from Volendam but you have plenty of buses stopping 3 min away from the B&B.
Staff was fantastic. Bedroom spacious and clean and breakfast was complete.
The hotel is situated in a very nice location, close to the centre of EDAM. Very nice and comfortable rooms. Served is local breakfast in sufficient quantity and great quality. Very helpful and nice staff.
Very pleasant and quiet accommodation on the edge of the town of Edam, very pleasant owner, close to the sea and the canal, very good restaurant within reach. Ideal accommodation for a stay for two.
Very considerate and thoughtful hosts. Good privacy, lovely design of guesthouse, extremely clean. Location in Edam was excellent, close to public transport to Amsterdam. Canal-front view.
Everything was perfect (house location and facilities, owner, parking)! Unexpected bonus - Edam town itself - quite, old, clean with regular buses to the center of Amsterdam.
Really nice garden! House is close to Volendam & Edam and the view from the room on the topfloor is amazing. Breakfast was nice and we can choose between several sandwiches
