very far up a hill, have to be willing to taxi or hike up the two miles from the main areas, not centrally located but clean enough. some small fly like bugs in the room and the hallways had an odd smell

The location was really nice, up a hill with a view of the valley below. The host was extremely nice and helpful, the house was equipped with everything we needed and more, bathroom was clean and kitchen well equipped. And all that for a very reasonable price.

The location was excellent. It’s walking distance to the beach and all the little restaurants and businesses in town. There is a grocery store a two minute walk away down the hill. The condominium as well outfitted, it has good airflow, it is well outfitted, it is not fancy, but it is serviceable. There is a nice little outdoor patio. there is no air conditioning and I could find no heater control, not that we needed it. It’s a flat, so there’s always a learning curve and figuring out how everything works. Love the washer and dryer.

The host was extremely communicative and clear about everything. He even sent pictures to go with each step of instructions. The indoor reserved parking spot was a life saver. We also had to ask to stay an extra night due to a medical issue and he was kind and accommodating.

Machico is so much nicer to stay in than Funchal if you like...
Machico is so much nicer to stay in than Funchal if you like the quieter more laid back vibe. The shops and restaurants are all good but particular praise must go to all the ladies in Pastelria O Gala who worked tirelessly to keep their customers happy at all times - the Pastel de Natas were simply gorgeous and at EUR1.00 each were superb value. Try O Secreta for a really nice evening meal and don't forget to try the bread in Paderia e Pastelaria Flor de MachicoDiggerUnited Kingdom - 10Scored 10

The apartment was spacious and very comfortable. The location was great ... within walking distance to the beach and also to the village centre. It is also close to the airport. The name of the apartment was not very clear. In the small print it has Edifico VIP Baie, but I was looking VIP Paradise Apartments.

A lovely town of just the right size, lively but still calm...
A lovely town of just the right size, lively but still calm - it has a lot of good restaurants, various stores etc that make your stay comfier than one in a smaller town, without the crowds of a bigger city which can get overwhelming. Funchal is a short drive away, and it is also a great base for all the trips and hikes especially around the eastern part of the island. And there is a sandy beach well protected from the waves, so almost everyday is a good day for a swim!

If you are without a car and want to visit most of the...
If you are without a car and want to visit most of the tourist places on Madeira Island you should rather look for a apartment in the Funchal city. That's a town where most of the buses go and you are going to have more time for your trips. The Machico city is also great and beautiful but rather quiet and somewhat local.

The location is good, just a short walk from the beach and restaurants although a little tricky to find at first. We stayed for my birthday and the owner had left a card and chocolates, as well as Madeiran wine, a bowl of fruit and some beers in the fridge. Wonderful! Thank you! We had a minor issue with the WiFi but the owner was very quick to respond and his mother came round to help us resolve it. The house itself is clean and comfortable, bright and modern.

Very lovely garden with many fruits and view is fantastic. The house was very spacious and clean. We stayed for 3 nights but if we had more time, we would spend more time in this house just chilling at the terrace. Feels nice to stay in one of "casa de campo" in Madeira. The staff were very helpful and friendly,the son is a mountain guide, and so gave some excellent advice on hiking in the mountains. The property is located very centrally so is convenient for every corner of Machico. If I come back to Madeira, I will be coming back here .
