Apparently this has been a tourist destination for many years but the old building has been modernised inside. At least our room, the dining area and the reception area were modern. We didn't use the lift because stairs led directly to our room. The man in charge of the breakfast rates special mention. He was very helpful both at breakfast and helped find other staff when we were leaving. There was a gentle grey cat who supervised the car park. The accommodation was signposted from the town. You drive up into the hills then at the T-junction there was nothing so we asked at the cafe. You turn left at the junction and the right turn for the hotel is shown soon after.

We stayed at this property for a week and it was perfect for our needs. We struggled a little bit with finding the place at first, as it is hidden between other houses and google maps takes you to a place from where you cannot see the house. We stopped in the middle of the main road with no house, just a small field and google said you have arrived..from there you need to keep driving up the road for about 1-2 minutes, there will be a local pub on left hand side. Go past that and first turn right, drive about 30 meters and you arrive. There is a little alleyway with walls on the left which you need to take to get to the house. I would recommend obtaining a picture with instructions from host prior your arrival. The house is very spacious and clean, and nicely furnished.
I reckon someone staying for longer would probably appreciate a washing machine which is not there, but as we were staying only 6 days, it was not a problem. We travelled in February, and happened to experience colder weather with more rain. Colder temperatures outside meant that house was a bit cold so we made use of portable heaters provided. I would also recommend anyone staying, bring your own slippers for more comfortable stay. We ended up buying some :) Location was beautiful and price was great considering with the value you get. We would definitely stay again and recommend this place highly.
Thank you! Martin

This is a beautiful, small town in the north side you should definitely stay in. It's central to most everything (even though a huge chunk of a convenient road to some trails was closed...) and has its own lovely charm.

Helena is very kind helpful and welcoming and made our stay very comfortable. The area is beautiful, the house is in the perfect location to explore the north part/north west, and spend time in the capital city.
House has huge en-suite rooms and a great size well-equipped kitchen, living room, and terrace with outdoor furniture.
We had dinner every day in Sao Vicente (5 min by car) Restaurante Calamar. Excellent food, and we were happy with everything we tried.
I am sure will go and stay here next time when we'll visit the island.

Sao Vicente is a great base for exploring the north of the island without really having a huge amount going for it per se (nothing negative). But Seixal is only a few km away and is my favourite village on the island! Sao Vicente does have a few ok restaurants by the sea but I had better meal experiences elsewhere during my trip. The local caves are closed for the next year or so.

The village is absolutely beautiful.
The village is absolutely beautiful. Ideal for walking around. The views are just stunning, especially if you walk on top of the hill where the small chapel is. It's just difficult to get there if you want to use public transport. Buses there are a nightmare. We were lucky enough that our previous host took us there from Funchal. Otherwise we would struggle as nobody whom we asked in Funchal knew where the bus stop was for bus going to Sao Vicente.

Sao Vicente is a small town on the north side of Madeira,...
Sao Vicente is a small town on the north side of Madeira, rather less well known than most of the south side of the island. It has an interesting old church, a garden of indigenous trees (for plant enthusiasts), volcanic caves and interpretation centre (for geology enthusiasts) and several good restaurants (for foodies!).
From Sao Vicente you can travel along the north coast; westwards to Seixal and Porto Moniz, eastwards to Boaventura, Sao Jorge or Santana. Drive inland to Encumeada, the starting point for several superb hikes, or drive up to the Paul da Serra moorlands.
The roads around here are in good condition and easy to drive, there's not much traffic and the local drivers are quite considerate.
I've visited this area at various times of the year, for hiking and plant spotting, and there's always something new.
Food and drink? No problems! There is everything from simple roadside bars where you can share your coffee break with the locals to top quality restaurants serving authentic Madeiran dishes.
The garden is stunningly beautiful and peaceful and the pool is a good size and looks inviting.
The property is surrounded by mountains and is alive with bird song. There is a very good restaurant within easy walking distance. Sao Vicente ,a short drive away, is a is a pleasant place to walk around and has good restaurants and shops.
Rooms were of a good size and beds were comfortable with sufficient blankets and the hot water bottle was a thoughtful touch. We enjoyed a levada walk nearby and visiting the north coast.
We had an amazing time in this absolute gorgeous and beautiful hotel. Everything was just magical - the rooms, the breakfast, the surroundings and the views, the calm, and decoration…thank you for also to the team that made our stay such a lovely experience from check-in to check-out. Many thanks also for the recommendation and reservation of the restaurant Lavrador - our dinner was soooo good! We highly recommend this perl in São Vicente with kids and also just for a romantic stay.
Located in a nice quiet part of the island just outside Sao Vicente centre with easy access to everything as we had rented a car. Roberto the owner was fabulous and even gave us some lovely home made cooking on Sunday, and Clarissa, his neighbour was on hand to support us for anything we needed and gave us some fruits grown in her garden (Thankyou) It is a beautiful villa with a lovely pool and gardens and the local restaurant serves fresh fish daily - only a 5min walk away.
The little house is perfect for a stay in Sao Vicente. Is has everything you need for a comfortable stay. We highly appreciated that it had a washing machine. We were greeted with a bottle of Madeira wine and home made cookies, very thoughtful. Janine who administrates the property, is a wonderful person, very attentive and communicative. She gave us lots of info on where to eat, drink, trekking spots and so much more.
We stayed here for 2 weeks with a couple of friends and our 8 month old son. It was just perfect. Super clean and fresh house. The location is great, Sao Vicente is beautiful and peaceful, not so many tourists or partying - which was perfect for us. There’s plenty of beautiful hikes nearby and also a supermarket which was great. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Madeira!
Thank you. Hanna
Amazing town-house in Sao Vicente with a great location and amazing view.. the place is fully equipped with everything you need. The decoration is beautiful and gives you a calm vibes. Leonel went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. We enjoyed the company of the beautiful Crazy and Michy during our stay.
We absolutely loved it. We highly recommend staying in Sao Vicente, not only that it offers wonderful views, but it’s also quiet and very friendly. Apartment is very well equipped, and has a beautiful panorama view. Eduarda is so sweet and she surprised us with some homegrown fruits, eggs and even groceries.
I can’t imagine a more perfect place in São Vicente. For the price of a hotel room you can be on a comfortable apartment in the center of the village. There are restaurants and a market in easy walking distance. Filipe is a wonderful and helpful host. Great views from my balcony.
Great staying at The Wave Hostel. The owner Celio is always present and available to give all the right information about moving around in Sâo Vicente. Also the hostel is close to Fajâ Da Areia beach who is a good surf spot in this part of the island.
Very great host, perfect location as a base to explore the north coast and interior of the island ( by car) and very clean and spacious accommodation with lovely views of the valley Sao Vicente. Also lovely big accommodation in common areas.
Location was perfect, communication with the house owner was pleasant, nice surrounding (supermarket, nature and gas station), view to the village. Nice fully equipped kitchen (permanently available) and the hall with the fire place.
Breakfast was pretty good, lot of options, fresh bread, and nicely cooked eggs.
The view was incredible, the hotel is located on the hills just above Sao Vicente and overlooks the mountains and of course the shore line.
The guest house is located in the beautiful village of Sao Vincente. The view from the balcony was spectacular, birds singing from the early morning, staff extremely helpful, accommodating and warm. Highly recommended.
A really nice place with very kind owners. Granny's farm is a special place in Sao Vicente. I would really recommend staying here. The facilities and terrain are nice and everything is well maintained.
Nice little hotel with a lot of cute chillout areas and a bar on top. I could sleep very well and had fantastic breakfast in the morning. Free parking nearby.
