One of the most popular touristic destinations in Brazil, Foz do Iguaçu is located on the Brazilian side of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Iguaçu Falls. Lying on the triple frontier between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, it also offers the Parque das Aves (Birds Park), the Itaipú Dam, and access to cheap shopping in the Paraguayan tax-free city of Ciudad del Este.
The word Iguaçu derives from the native Guaraní language, meaning “big water”. The spectacular falls are part of the natural frontier between Argentina and Brazil, and comprise 275 individual falls spread over 3 km in both countries, with a maximum height of 80 metres. Its water flow can be three times that of the Niagara.
Starting as a small village, Foz grew thanks to the flow of tourists, the construction of the bridges linking to Paraguay and Argentina, and the works on the Itaipú Dam and Hydroelectric Plant. Some of the best hotels in Foz do Iguaçu are located along the road linking to the national park. Nonetheless, most Foz do Iguaçu hotels are located in and around the central area.

The Iguaçu Falls are phenomenal, needing two days, the first for the panoramic view on the Brazilian side, the second for a close-up experience on the Argentinian side. The city felt safe, and we walked some 6 or 7 blocks to eat at a good Italian restaurant.

We underestimated the time needed in Foz do Iguaçu.
We underestimated the time needed in Foz do Iguaçu. We extended our stay by 1 night from 2 nights to 3 (moving to wonderful Hotel Sanma because With Foz do Iguaçu had no room available), but should probably have added 2 nights instead of only 1.
Count 0.5 days for Itaipu, 1 day for Iguaçu-falls Brazilian side, 1 day for Iguazu falls Argentinian side, 0.5 days for the wonderful, very instructive Parque das Aves, and 0.5 days for a quick hike through the 3 towns Foz (Bra) Ciudad del Este (Par) and Puerto Iguazu (Arg).
Make sure you travel with autorized means of transportation from one country to the other.

Forget Victoria and Niagara, this is the only one you need to see! But make sure you see both sides as they are different. The Brazilian side is beautiful, the Argentinian side is awesomely dramatic. One day is sufficient if you start at opening time then transfer by taxi to Argentina and stay in a hotel there at the end.

Iguazu Falls - definitely worth visiting, but check tickets before you go as you might end up in a very long queue. Hotels offer to buy (not too big $$ difference). Birds park worth visiting as well as popping in to Argentina.

The Falls is a must see place to get a balanced impression...
The Falls is a must see place to get a balanced impression of the magnificence of this natural wonder. Getting there is quite easy if you speak Portuguese/Spanish or are more adventurous, to take a local bus to and from the Falls and adjacent Bird Park - both excellent options with easy hiking trails. Uber and 99 are good options too or taxi - but be prepared for taxi drivers to drive up the price 400%.
There are a number of restaurants in the park where you can stop for a bite or to refresh. Toilets are adjacent to restaurants.
The trails are clearly marked and easy to navigate.
I recently stayed at Dan Foz Iguacu Hotel during my trip to Iguazu Falls, and it was fantastic.
The hotel's location is perfect for exploring the falls and the surrounding area. The rooms were comfy and had everything I needed.
The food at the hotel restaurant was delicious, especially the breakfast buffet. The staff were friendly and helpful, making me feel welcome throughout my stay.
Overall, Dan Foz Iguacu Hotel provided a great experience, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
We really enjoyed the hotel; the Arabic restaurant was excellent, and the bar and pools were great too. There's an indoor pool for bad weather and an outdoor pool for better weather. The hotel offers fantastic activities, especially the Kids' Club, which our daughter loved. It's highly recommended for families. The bar has a billiard table and is a great place to relax. The spa area is also worth recommending; the massages were excellent.
"The Reception: A Warm Welcome and Delicious Cookies Await"
The breakfast included wide range of foods. The hostess also accommodated an early breakfast for us on one day, which was appreciated. We were in Foz do Iguacu during Carnavale, and so a lot of restaurants were closed, and taxis / uber rides took a while to arrive. The hostess had her son drive us to a shopping centre with a food hall, which was helpful. The bedroom was air-conditioned, and the bed was very comfortable.
The location was excellent because I was sick and next to and in front of the hotel there was a pharmacy, plus we could walk to some restaurants. The breakfast was excellent, many options, all tasty and also with a terrace in case we wanted to eat outside. The pool and jacuzzis are a great addition to have a relaxing day at the hotel and almost no guests use them. A large and comfortable lobby area to wait for an Uber.
First and foremost, the staff! So accommodating and helpful. The room was spacious, the bed was massive, all facilities were great and the breakfast was extensive. The hotel is so conveniently located near the Rodoviaria and only a short bus ride to the bus terminal for onward connections to Iguaçu Falls and to cross the border into Argentina.
Staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast had too many cakes/sweets vs savory which is personally not my favorite. The rooms were very dated with tissue-paper-thin sheets. But the shower had good water pressure and got very hot.
Lots of mosquitoes (we killed 2 in our room) but not really the hotel’s fault we’re in the tropics
The property is amazing!
The staff is so nice, friendly and helpfull. We really , really loved!!! It was a great experience and for sure I would go back. The location is out of this world. I truly recommend this hotel if you wanna have a unique experience .
Congratulations to all the staff and management.
Very comfortable place at a very good price. Quiet at night and in front of a shopping mall, which is convenient. The restaurant at the hotel is good and the staff is very helpful. The room was very spacious. Laundry service is quick (drop before 10 in the morning and you receive it the same day).
Hotel was very clean and rooms cleaned every day with care. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful when needed. Many restaurants in the area, and the hotel serves a very good buffet breakfast. The hotel is secure no problems.
The people at the reception were very helpful. The hotel was clean, with very convenient location.
Breakfast OK, good selection. The hotel arranged a free of charge taxi from the airport for us.
Hotel Colonial Iguaçu is located approximatelly 1,5 km from Iguazy Falls and Parque dos Pasaros. Fantastic location for reasonable price. Walking distance to main places of interest.
