Located in Southern France, Avignon is the largest capital of the department of Vaucluse. Classified as a UNESCO world Heritage Site, the charming city centre is home to the palace of the popes, Rocher des Doms, and the bridge of Avignon.
The historic Palais des Papes is one of the most significant medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. Set within a square with the same name, the Papal Palace is an important tourist attraction where you can see the pope’s private chambers and frescoes by Matteo Giovannetti.
Le Pont d’Avignon was built in the Middle Ages and, according to the legend, a young shepherd called Benezet was inspired by angels to build the bridge. The children’s song "Sur Le Pont D'Avignon" is now famous all over the world.

A wonderful place to hang around.
After sunset it might feel a bit uncomfortable, however I did not feel particularly unsafe at any point.

Great history and narrow lovely streets to walk through.
Great history and narrow lovely streets to walk through. Visit to Popes old digs and the old bridge were great. Natural museum was free, however it took only 15 minutes to see the collection. Restaurant’s and food there were great as well. Could do without all of the beggars on the street, some who were obviously drunk and quite aggressive constantly asking us for money. Carry some coins just in case you get cornered and feel threatened as it’s the easiest way out of it without risk.

Avignon once was a beautiful old town, rich in history and lovely to walk around is. These days, however, the city is horribly dilapidated; at least two out of every ten shops is closed forever and their storefronts are covered in graffiti.
Another deception is the fact that it is very hard to find affordable restaurants serving French food, since the centre of town is filled with tourist traps serving pizza's, couscous and similar imported dishes.

Beautiful, historic, walkable city, with numerous plazas, charming narrow streets and great restaurants. Popes palace and surrounding area was spectacular, with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Great base location for day trips to other nearby interesting towns like Arles and Orange and others.
The porporty is a 8 min drive from downtown avignon. Our host gave a lot of good adivces on the restaurants, car parks, and attractons nearby. He offered to help us book a restaurant and it was amazing. Our host Matt is very friendly, respectful, and speaks very good English. He makes breakfast fresh frrom scratch every morning. We could not have asked for a better host or a better estate to stay in south of France. The three dogs onsite are cute and easy to interact.
This hotel and its staff is an absolute bliss! Located within walking distance of the train station, yet close to the old town. A staff that provided several recommendations for two dinners and made the reservations directly, a brand new hotel (2022) with a fantastic, clean, modern room (Junior Suite), a breakfast with a view of the busy town, a charming hotel manager with a very helpful team - it was our best experience of a 14 days trip through France!
I found this hotel to be very pleasant, welcoming and comfortable, contrary to some "horror story" reviews floating around from disgruntled guests. The rooms are standard Mercure/Accor hotel style, WiFi was fast, staff good. Very quiet at night - a must for a sensitive sleeper like me! Breakfast particularly nice buffet & enjoyed the little outdoor area for dining. Unbeatable location for palais des papes and the Pont d'Avignon.
Hotel within the old town area of Avignon with (limited) parking. Very well taken care of location with friendly and helpful staff. The hotel has a very pretty patio where you can have breakfast, coffee or hide from the hot afternoon sun. The main touristic sights of Avignon can be reached by foot (about 18 min to the Popes Palace) and there is a vivid bar scene just around the corner.
spur of the moment decision to visit Avignon and we chose Hotel Le Medieval. it was everything we needed…clean, fabulous location for enjoying the city and surrounding area, staff that was
warm and helpful, charming breakfast to start the day. we thoroughly appreciated everything Hotel Le Medieval contributed out our stay In Provence.
This was a very nice hotel and the largest room we had while traveling in France. We originally booked just one night but requested a second night because we wanted a slower pace and the accommodations were perfect - and it was available! Delicious breakfast with much variety. Staff was very kind!
The owner was extremely helpful. Let us leave our suitcases before check in and after check out. She also arranged a taxi for us to our next destination and advised us regarding local restaurants. The cheeses at breakfast were the best I had eaten in France. And the coffee was also excellent.
Location good for motorway access & onward travel. Typical IBIS Budget hotel with a restaurant for breakfast and evening meal. Free car parking. Rooms basic but comfortable and clean with a good shower.. Breakfast was good and staff friendly. 15 minute drive to centre of Avignon.
The little dogs, Bonnie and Berry, are really delightful, and the hosts are doing their best. The hotel and rooms are immaculate and very well maintained. Location is ideal for walking around Avignon. Several large squares with cafes, restaurants, and bars are close by.
Brian is the perfect host of his gorgeous boutique hotel. He ensures your trip is magical from start to finish. The rooms are comfortable and stylish. Dinner was fantastic and breakfast the next morning one of the best we had in France. Would definitely recommend
It was excellent stay, the hotel is situated in the center, close to all main attractions of Avignon. The room was very clean, the staff was very nice, they kindly advised us where to park the car and always were very helpful.
Large hotel next to the city wall of Avignon; spacious rooms with bedroom and living room; our room was upgraded to garden view, as there was a contruction on the street side.
I almost don't want to share this property with anyone. Absolutely, the BEST place we stayed in France. If you are on the fence at all...definitely make the reservation!
Nice place a bit outside of Avignon but still easy to reach the city center by car or bus. The breakfast is really awesome and the best we ever had in an ibis hotel
Cute little apartment, very clean. Everything you really need is there. No luxury, just what you expect. Good for one or two nights, maybe rather young travelers.
